LYNNE HARKES

I was born in Scotland's historic and beautiful capital, Edinburgh. I have particularly strong childhood memories of being enthralled by the striking architecture in this great city; from the cobbles and wynds of the ancient Royal Mile and environs, to my early school days nestled in the serene and magnificent building that in those days housed John Watson's School, now The Gallery of Modern Art.

My inspiration, above all, comes from Nature. I get a special thrill from taking hidden blooms, or faded leaves and giving them magnificent life on canvas. I believe when taking time to notice the detail in the smallest of things, it is possible to momentarily step into a calm space. I hope my paintings convey my devotion to the spiritual side of life and appreciation of the daily wonder that surrounds us all. I hope that in some small way my art lifts and inspires.

As well as exhibiting in my hometown of Edinburgh, I have shown my work in various platforms during my periods of living in the Sultanate of Oman, in the Middle East and in West Africa and have work hanging in private collections in Australia, India, South Africa, South America, The Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom
